Once a sentence is being served, the case stops being about evidence and becomes about the penal administration: conduct records, disciplinary sanctions, medical care, incentives, and the documents that decide a parole hearing years later.
Alena works on that side. Complaints about conditions of detention and denial of medical treatment, transfer between facilities, and — for foreign nationals — the transfer of a sentenced person to their country of nationality under the applicable treaties. She is also the person who prepares the evidence file that makes an application under Article 79 or Article 80 succeed rather than fail on paperwork.
