Language

About language, honestly

What matters is not whether your lawyer speaks your language. It is whether they can defend the case.

We have long experience of defending foreign nationals in Russia, and our clients have come from Europe, the Middle East, Central and South-East Asia, Africa and the CIS. Some of our lawyers speak English and work with clients directly. Others work through an interpreter.

We would rather say this plainly than imply that everyone in the firm is fluent. The interpreter is not a workaround — under Article 18 of the Criminal Procedure Code an interpreter is compulsory and free of charge for a defendant who does not command Russian, and every hearing and every interview in your relative's case will involve one regardless of who defends them.

Correspondence with the family, written case updates and consultations are conducted in English. The defence itself is conducted in Russian, in Russian courts, by lawyers who practise there every day.
